About the Artist

Bringing Joy to Your Home

My paintings are an expression of pure joy, inspired by the beauty of the New England seasons and the art of daily life.

From a Childhood Passion to a Lifelong Pursuit

The Journey of a Creative Life

My creativity has always been a constant thread throughout my life. As a child, I learned the art of painting by simply being with my late English father in his studio, an experience that still feels a part of my process today. Saturday outdoor art classes in the Blue Mountains further nurtured this passion, instilling in me a deep and lasting love for colour, pattern, and the natural world.

Over the years, while my formal studies in Fine Arts provided a foundation, my creativity took many different forms while raising my family. From designing gardens to home styling and creating bespoke soft furnishings, I found ways to infuse art into the rhythm of daily life.

The Re-emergence of a Passion

Finding New Inspiration in the Countryside

Now, with more time and space, painting has once again become the central focus of my life. It has completely transformed the way I see the world, filling it with texture, colour, and a sense of pure joy. I am constantly inspired by the beautiful New England seasons, the ever-changing landscape outside my window, and the patterns and textures within my own home and garden. My goal is to combine these elements in interesting ways, seeking out colours that truly exude a joie de vivre.

I paint in our pretty pink and green sitting room, a creative hub that overlooks our garden and the majestic Mount Duval. This is a space that is anything but minimalist—a colourful and vibrant place where art and life are always in motion. I often joke that I'm a mix of Margaret Olley and Anna Spiro. The lively atmosphere, with family and daily activities always close by, keeps me grounded and often helps me see a painting with fresh eyes.

My expressive process

A Dialogue with the Canvas

Fiona Nash

My artistic process is an organic journey. It begins with an acrylic underpainting, over which I build up rich layers and texture using oils and a palette knife. My work is expressive, not literal—I aim to capture a feeling or an impression rather than a detailed depiction. I rarely sketch beforehand, choosing instead to trust the evolution of the piece. I think of each painting as a visual jigsaw puzzle; sometimes the pieces fall into place, and other times I need to step away and return with a fresh perspective to find the path forward.

I draw inspiration from the Impressionists, especially Van Gogh, Monet, and Cézanne. Their expressive use of light, colour, and emotion resonates deeply with me. Their work evokes a sense of joy, and that is my ultimate aim: to express my unique perspective and, in doing so, share a sense of happiness and delight with others.

Bringing Art to Your Walls

Commissions & Exhibitions

Currently, you can find my paintings framed in natural or white oak at Oracle Insurance, where I exhibit my work. I also love taking on commissions, working from photographs to create a personalised piece of art. My hope is that my paintings will adorn the walls of family, friends, and anyone inspired by my vision, bringing a sense of beauty and happiness to the most important place in the world: our homes.
